Variations as a Service
Everybody knows the three flavours of "as a service": IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. But there are also:
1. BaaS (Backup as a Service): cloud backup of any resource (files, databases, VMs) plus storage outside the customer's site.
2. DRaaS (Disaster Recovery as a Service): a cloud service that restores servers to working order after a disaster.
3. BaaS (Backend as a Service): an approach that lets web and mobile developers connect their apps to cloud storage and server-side APIs, along with user management, notifications and social network integration. Also known as mBaaS, mobile backend as a service.
4. DaaS (Desktop as a Service): access to a ready-to-use remote desktop running in the cloud.
5. VaaS (Video as a Service): a model for delivering and exchanging video content through a cloud provider.
6. MaaS (Monitoring as a Service): monitoring the customer's resources from the cloud.
7. MaaS (Metal as a Service) / HaaS (Hardware as a Service): hardware provided in the cloud / automated operating system installation.
8. DBaaS (Database as a Service): database instances provided in the cloud.
9. SecaaS (Security as a Service): security services delivered from the cloud (web access, URL filtering and so on).
10. AIaaS (Artificial Intelligence as a Service): AI services in the cloud (speech, text, image and video recognition, speech and text translation, recommender systems and so on).
11. CaaS (Communications as a Service): communications as a service, essentially an enterprise communications solution: voice over VoIP networks, instant messaging or video conferencing.
12. STaaS (Storage as a Service): storage as a service: disk space on demand.
13. NaaS (Network as a Service): the network as a service.
